Born in Oakland, CA, I grew up in neighboring Alameda and graduated from San Jose State College in 1958 with a degree in journalism.  After serving three years as an officer in the Marine Corps, I spent 41 years in the insurance industry as an adjuster, claim supervisor and claim manager.  I retired in 2002 and moved to Oregon.  I moved back to Hawaii, where I had lived since 1971, in July 2006, as it seemed like a better place to die. 

I have been a freelance writer since my college days,  having contributed more than 1,500 articles to some 40 publications over the past 50 years.  Most of my early articles were in sports-related topics, especially in endurance sports.  I was a stringer for The Honolulu Advertiser for 24 years, covering distance running, ocean swimming, bicycle racing, triathlons, and other sports.   I wrote a column for Runner's World for six years and have been contributing monthly features to Running Times magazine since 1993.  Also, I have been writing a monthly column for National Masters News since 1980.

My primary interest now is in the metaphysical arena.  I am editor of The Searchlight, a quarterly magazine published by the Academy of Spirituality and Paranormal Studies, Inc.  I have contributed articles to FATE, Nexus, Mysteries, Two Worlds, Atlantis Rising, The Summit, The Christian Parapsychologist, Vital Signs, Venture Inward, Dark Lore, and other publications.  My book, The Articulate Dead , was recently published and is available on line from Galde Press (http://www.galdepress.com/) and also from Amazon.com    You can find some of my articles by putting “Mike Tymn” and “Michael E.
